‘He’s absolutely flying’ – An owner, trainer and jockey to follow at Punchestown

Punchestown hosts a two-day fixture this week and the action on Tuesday looks thoroughly competitive. We have seven races to look forward to and the puzzle gives us much to ponder. With that in mind, we’ve picked out an owner, trainer and jockey to follow across the card, which should give you a helping hand. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

Trainer – Joseph O’Brien

Joseph O’Brien is always one to watch and you may want to take note as two of his runners on Tuesday look very interesting. Duke Silver returned to winning ways at Listowel last month and a 6lb rise might not be enough to stop him from going in again.

Ex-Flat recruit Cinammon Coco failed to win in six starts on the level for O’Brien but he did manage to finish second over 1m4f. He has progressed with each of his three starts over hurdles so far and won easily at Down Royal last time out, making him the one to beat here.

Jockey – Darragh O’Keeffe

It has been an excellent start to the season for him and he’s absolutely flying along recently. Andrew McNamara’s Superficial makes his first start over hurdles in the opener and the three-year-old was last seen finishing third in a 1m3f handicap at Listowel.

O’Keeffe’s second ride of the day is aboard Dairy Force for Liam O’Brien. The six-year-old remains very lightly raced over hurdles and managed to win nicely on his hurdling debut at Kilbeggan in June 2024. He was very unlucky at Gowran recently and there should be more to come.

Owner – JP McManus

You can rarely escape JP McManus, as he’s the biggest owner in both Britain and Ireland. His famous green and gold silks will be represented with two runners on Tuesday.

Watching The Clock is lightly raced and she was an impressive winner at Gowran when last seen. A 10lb rise will make life harder but there’s scope for further improvement and she looks like one to keep on side. Brazil also runs and the ex-Cheltenham Festival winner is entitled to be in the mix.
