Irish trainers have targeted Cheltenham‘s meetings with more regularity in recent seasons, in preparation for the Festival in March. There are a significant number of Irish raiders at the Gloucestershire track on Friday, some of which are particularly interesting.
With that in mind, we’ve selected four Irish runners who could be worth keeping an eye on. Take a look at our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Andrew Slattery is a shrewd operator and his runner Mullaghgloss has won two of his last three starts. The first of those successes came in a Galway bumper in October and he won nicely over hurdles at Thurles last month. This is a warm-looking race but it would be dangerous to rule him out.
The Short Go ran a respectable race to finish fourth on his seasonal reappearance here in October and you would imagine he will improve for the run. Stable form is a slight concern but the softer ground won’t be an issue and he has the ability to run a big race.
Busselton won a Cross Country race at the Punchestown Festival so this sort of test clearly suits. Things didn’t go to plan when pulling up at the Cheltenham Festival but his two course and distance efforts prior to that were reasonable. Joseph O’Brien’s gelding is well handicapped and should be making the frame.
J’Arrive De L’Est is a fascinating French import and he won five of his 10 chase starts in France. The six-year-old is making his debut for Emmet Mullins here and it’s hard to know what to expect. The yard has been in decent form in the last fortnight and he could be one to watch.
