‘He’ll be looking for compensation’ – Kevin Ryan sends first runner to Fairyhouse ⛴️

Yorkshire-based trainer Kevin Ryan is yet to send a runner across the sea to Ireland so far this season. It could therefore be significant that he sends one to Fairyhouse on Monday. This is Ryan’s first ever runner at Fairyhouse so you would expect that he’s not just there to make up the numbers. Travelling is expensive these days so the 491-mile round-trip is certainly not going to be cheap. With that in mind, connections will be looking for some prize money to make the journey a profitable one. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

5.50 Fairyhouse

Match Play (28-1, William Hill) is the outsider of the field at time of writing. His connections will be hoping he can defy this status and finish in the places at the very least. The form of his Hamilton win hasn’t worked out particularly well which is a concern on this significant step up to Listed level. Only narrowly denied in a competitive but low-grade nursery at Carlisle last time out, that effort indicated some improvement which offers hope that further progression is possible.

The Clipper Logistics-owned colt will be partnered by their regular rider, Danny Tudhope. It could also be significant that he makes the journey over to take the ride. Tudhope has ridden eight winners in Ireland so far this season and will be looking to increase that tally with just his second ride at Fairyhouse this campaign.

It’s worth giving Match Play another go over 6f having disappointed over the trip at Hamilton in July. His pedigree is pretty speedy but if taking the extra furlong in his stride and improving for it, a huge run isn’t out of the question.
