We have an exciting week ahead of us and York provides the highlight, with the Ebor Festival. Festivities get underway on Wednesday and there’s a cracking card to look forward to. The main event is the £1,319,375 Juddmonte International Stakes and a field of six has been declared. Here we take a close look at the recent trends and they bode very well for the chances of one horse in particular. Take a look at our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Each of the last 10 winners had won a Group or Listed race earlier on in the season before going on to take this. All bar one of the six runners have managed to do so and the exception is Birr Castle. That won’t be too big a surprise as the French raider is reportedly being used as a pacemaker.
Seven of the last 10 winners came out on top in their previous starts and this stat doesn’t bode well for See The Fire or Ombudsman, who finished third and second respectively when last seen.
Eight of the last 10 winners had official ratings of 121 or higher going into the race. Francis-Henri Graffard’s Daryz has been given an official rating of 112 and he joins See The Fire and Birr Castle in the sub-121 club.
Sandown’s Coral-Eclipse is the form race to consider, with five of the last 10 winners running in it beforehand. Four of those won the Eclipse and Japanese challenger Danon Decile, making his European debut here, did not line up at Sandown.
Delacroix ticks all the boxes and recent history indicates that he’s the most likely winner. The Eclipse form is rock-solid so a similar performance would surely give him every chance. If there was one unknown quantity it would be the Japanese raider, but Aidan O’Brien’s colt gets the nod. Clearly he’s a top performer over this trip and a big run is anticipated with that in mind.
