‘He ran a cracking race in last year’s Gold Cup’ – Ruby Walsh’s 16/1 Cheltenham banker

Ruby Walsh has put up his biggest-priced banker of the week at the Cheltenham Festival as a 16/1 shot with a brilliant chance at Paddy Power’s Ultimate Cheltenham Preview night.

Ryanair Chase

There’s no better judge of a horse out there than Ruby Walsh himself and a surprise to many, he has put up Jungle Boogie as his biggest-priced Nap of the week at next week’s Cheltenham Festival.

Trainer Henry de Bromhead had a quiet time of things over the winter period but there have been signs that the yard is coming back to the boil at the right time. Jungle Boogie has three entries currently, but it looks like he will take his chance in a very competitive renewal of the Ryanair Chase.

Currently best-priced 16/1, Ruby Walsh stated of the Ryanair Chase: “After being comprehensively beaten by Galopin Des Champs twice, I think Fact To File will run here. Dropping down in trip won’t inconvenience him. Jungle Boogie was good at Ascot and ran a cracking race in last year’s Gold Cup. At a big price, he has a squeak.”

Unbeaten in three starts for Willie Mullins, Jungle Boogie has been with De Bromhead since and he ran a solid race when sixth in last season’s Gold Cup. He has only had one run this season and that was an eight-length victory at Ascot in December when seeing off Fil Dor, James Du Berlais and Iroko.

The only concern for him would be if the ground was on the good side as all of his form is on soft or heavy, but if the heavens did open on the Thursday of Cheltenham, then it’s unlikely his current price will be about.
