‘He pulverised them’ – Four Willie Mullins novice hurdlers to back at Cheltenham

The initial entries for some of the novice hurdles at the Cheltenham Festival were revealed this week and as expected, the great Willie Mullins will have a strong hand to play. These races have been farmed by Mullins in recent years so we’ve picked out four of his best chances in the Festival’s major novice events. Supreme Novices’ Hurdle

Mighty Park (14/1, bet365) was a complete unknown until makings his debut under rules at Fairyhouse over the weekend. He finished second in an Irish point at Quakerstown in April but left that form well behind and pulverised his rivals by 38 lengths in a maiden hurdle. More experience might be needed but he’ll be a force to be reckoned with if turning up in March.

Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle

Bambino Fever (2/1, bet365) was the best horse in the bumper division last term but suffered a shock defeat on hurdling debut at Naas last month. That proved to be just a blip however as she roared back to her best when winning well at Fairyhouse the other day. Firmly back on track now, the sky’s the limit for this very talented mare.

Triumph Hurdle

Narciso Has (7/2, bet365) could be the next in a long line of Willie Mullins-trained Triumph winners. He has won each of the last three renewals and four of the last five, which certainly bodes well for the French import. The four-year-old impressed at Leopardstown last time and looks very good.

Albert Bartlett

Sortudo (14/1, bet365) looks like the best fit at the moment, as he stayed on well to finish second in the Ballymore Novice Hurdle at Naas last time out. The way he saw out the 2m4f trip suggests three miles won’t be a problem and you would imagine there’s plenty more to come.
