When Ruby Walsh speaks, you listen. He has incredible knowledge and is a brilliant judge of a horse and of a race. He did a column for Paddy Power the other day and spoke really highly of one particular horse for the Triumph Hurdle, and it’s not an Irish-trained horse! Read on for more information but before you do that, grab some free bets in preparation for the Cheltenham Festival by opening a Paddy Power account using the banner below.
The horse in question is East India Dock, who is trained by James Owen and is owned by the Gredley family. The son of Golden Horn was quite classy on the Flat but he’s a perfect three from three over hurdles, winning by a combined 32 lengths in the three races.
Ruby said: “I had my doubts about East India Dock walking around the ring on Trials day at Cheltenham in January. I was looking at him, thinking he was a handy little bit of a horse who looked a picture. But he’s as hard as nails, he jumps like a buck and gets the trip really well.
When it gets down to it, when they cross the road heading up to the last hurdle in the Triumph is that really long run on the New Course. When it gets down to who’s got the guts for this, I’d like to be on East India Dock.”
