‘He had loads in hand’ – Three Dublin Racing Festival winners to watch at Cheltenham

The Dublin Racing Festival took place at the weekend and Willie Mullins was the dominant force once again, winning seven of the 15 races and six of the eight Grade 1s. Kopek Des Bordes and Final Demand were two of the standout performers for him and both rocketed to the front of the market for the Supreme and the Turners respectively.

We’ve got three Leopardstown winners that aren’t trained by Mullins for you and they are worth following if lining up at the Cheltenham Festival. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

Hello Neighbour

Gavin Cromwell’s juvenile hurdler won a Grade 2 at Leopardstown on Boxing Day, which was his first start over hurdles. He looked a little too keen in the early stages and did well to hang on that day. Settling much better at Leopardstown on Sunday, he was travelling much the best heading to the last and had way more in hand than the official margin suggests. The son of Harzand is surely a player in the Triumph Hurdle and if delivered late, he could come out on top.

An Peann Dearg

Not a trainer that everyone will be familiar with, Paul Nolan trains this progressive and lightly raced chaser. This eight-year-old pulled nicely clear of My Mate Mozzie in the valuable 2m1f handicap and managed to score by seven lengths. He would have to go under serious consideration if heading over for the Grand Annual as it’s likely that there’s plenty more to come from him.

McLaurey

Emmet Mullins’ novice is clearly very progressive and he had loads in hand when winning the Listed Timeless Sash Windows Handicap Hurdle. Whilst the official winning distance was a length, he idled on the run-in and would have learnt a lot from that experience. Mullins knows how to win handicaps at the Cheltenham Festival and this horse is a proper County Hurdle candidate.
