Sandown‘s Friday card provides the perfect set up to Saturday’s Tingle Creek fixture and there are a couple of Grade 2 races to look forward to. There’s also got some decent handicap action on the agenda so we’ve picked out our strongest selections for all six races on the card. Hot Fuss finished second to the very promising juvenile East India Dock at Wincanton in October and it’s hard to knock that form. Tom Dascombe’s three-year-old wouldn’t need to find much improvement on that evidence and should be going close here.
Mount Tempest won this race last year and will be attempting to follow up off an 8lb higher mark this time around. His eight-length success at Wetherby off a 3lb lower mark in January suggests winning here shouldn’t be beyond him.
Quebecois is a big, scopey five-year-old that could go to the very top when he goes chasing. Paul Nicholls’ gelding is going to be one to follow over hurdles this season before that however. He won his maiden in good style at Chepstow and the step up in grade looks more than warranted.
Listed novice hurdle-winner Handstands was the best of these over timber and retains loads of potential now chasing. He’ll need to improve on his disappointing effort at Wincanton on chase debut but is entitled to do so.
Tea Clipper was rated 147 at his peak and has to be dangerous now down to 128. There were signs of a return to form when finishing second at Exeter last time out and Cameron Iles takes 7lb off here. A return to winnings ways could be on the agenda.
Authentic Legacy has been runner-up in all three starts over hurdles and perhaps the switch to handicaps can facilitate the shedding of his maiden tag. A mark of 112 certainly doesn’t look unreasonable and progress is anticipated.
