The final declarations for Tuesday have been announced and the absence of Sir Gerhard in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle is significant although not hugely surprising. At the time of writing, the bookies are unable to split Constitution Hill and Dysart Dynamo. It’s also worth noting that Grade 1 winner Mighty Potter is available at a double figure price and Kilcruit can’t be written off. Our stage looks set for the Cheltenham Festival to kick off with a bang as the crowd’s roar welcomes the start of day one.
Nicky Henderson and Willie Mullins look to have a great chance of making a winning start to the week according to the market with Constitution Hill and Dysart Dynamo. However, the latter gives the impression that the occasion might be too much for him. He’s a buzzy type that does too much going down to the start and stablemate Kilcruit will be up there with him setting him alight. Constitution Hill’s Tolworth win isn’t the strongest form on offer.
Jonbon looks to be the most likely winner and he’s yet to taste defeat in a point and three rules starts. This full-brother to previous Supreme winner Douvan has all the tools to follow in the footsteps of his illustrious sibling. He’s shown aptitude for a battle as he had to get down and dirty when winning a trial at Haydock last time out. He had to show plenty of finishing speed first time out at Newbury in a tactical affair. Jonbon’s competitors ensured the first part of the race was a crawl in an attempt to upset the hurdling debutant. The plan failed as Jonbon powered away to beat the useful Good Risk At All by six lengths. He could be the next Douvan.
