Five and a half furlongs can be a bit of a tricky trip, splitting traditional sprinters. At Navan on Wednesday, there is one horse who is well suited to this in-between test. It is truly remarkable that this horse is just 2/45 in his career but makes such huge appeal in a twenty-three runner sprint!
Those two wins have both come in this race, scoring in 2019 and 2020. From a lower handicap mark than either of those in 2021, the hat-trick looks well and truly on. As well as Navan, there are cards at Newmarket, Worcester, Fontwell and Kempton on Wednesday. We have free horse racing tips for all five cards on site.
Teddy Boy is the horse in question, Eddie Lynam – no stranger to a sprinter winner – is the man who trains him. Chris Hayes rode him to victory in the race last year and he is back in the plate again in the bid for a third success. He has been running fine for most of this year in similar races but has managed to get himself down to a mark a pound below his 2019 winning level and nine pounds under his 2020 successful handicap rating.
He shaped as if he is coming back to form at the Curragh last time out. In that five furlong contest he was beaten just two and a half lengths when drawn 1 in a race where those from higher slots prevailed. That will have put the finishing touches to him in his preparation for this race and set him up perfectly for another bid in the only race that has seen him successful in his career.
