Harry Charlton sends one runner on the 746-mile round trip to Hamilton on Tuesday

There’s a competitive fixture up in Scotland on Tuesday, as Hamilton hosts a seven-race card. The feature race is the Class 3 Hamilton Park Scottish Trophy Handicap and there are no fewer than three last time out winners in the field. It’s no surprise that the £26,000 prize fund has attracted some southern interest and Wiltshire-based trainer Harry Charlton has sent just one runner on the 746-mile round trip to Hamilton. 7.10 Hamilton

Wave Rider appears to have every chance in this race and he has already won this season. He remains very lightly raced, having had just six starts to date, and won a Sandown maiden in good style on his penultimate start. The second has since boosted the form by winning a maiden easily next time.

Things didn’t go smoothly that day as he was initially prominent before dropping to midfield. Making headway once switched out, he pulled clear in the final half-a-furlong to win by three lengths. Clearly he had plenty in hand and there should be more to come in handicap company.

We next saw him in a competitive 1m2f Racing League event at Yarmouth, where he kept on for third despite posing a serious challenge to the first two. It’s noted that the handicapper has since dropped him 1lb and an improved effort can’t be ruled out.

Danger Bay and Noble Horizon both won last time out and appear to be the main dangers. Harry Charlton has one winner from two runners at Hamilton so far this season, which isn’t bad at all.
