Doncaster hosts Britain’s final Group 1 of the Flat season on Saturday and the Futurity Trophy produces plenty of future Classic winners. Three 2000 Guineas winners, an Irish 2000 Guineas winner and a Derby winner have all graduated from this race since 2017.
With that in mind, we should be on the lookout out for future stars. We’ve picked out an ante-post contender at 20/1 that has the perfect pedigree for a Group 1 such as this. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Nebras (20/1, bet365) was clearly in need of the experience on debut at Newmarket. He got off to a slow start and looked green throughout the race. The fact that he managed to win suggests he has loads of ability and we’re likely to see a much more professional performance this time around.
Group 1 form runs in the family as the son of Dubawi is half-brother to the yard’s three-time Group 1 winner Nashwa. It’s therefore no surprise that he cost 725,000 guineas at the sales and we’ll soon see if he’s good enough to follow in his illustrious sibling’s footsteps.
Aidan O’Brien has won four of the last seven renewals and has six entries, although he tends to only run one or two. Whatever he runs needs to be respected for obvious reasons, as does Nebras’ stablemate Detain who absolutely bolted up under a penalty at Kempton. It would also be dangerous to rule out Hotazhell if the Irish raider lines up here.
Improvement will obviously be needed in the higher grade but John & Thady Gosden’s colt should come on significantly for his last run and it’s hard to ignore his excellent pedigree.
