Gordon Elliott Stable Tour: ‘She’ll take some stopping at Cheltenham’

It’s the most exciting time of year for Jump racing enthusiasts as the season is getting ready to kick-off. This is the time at which the stable tours start to flow and we find out who the trainers are looking forward to running. Gordon Elliott’s stable tour came out this week and there’s plenty of fascinating insight to consider. We’ve picked out three horses who Elliott is excited about and could achieve big things this season.

‘We think the world of him’

American Mike was a top bumper horse last season and his trainer has tipped him to go all the way as a hurdler. Elliott has made no secret of his adoration for the gelding and stated: “I’m convinced he’s very good and I definitely haven’t lost any faith in him […] We think the world of him. He’s pure quality.” This strapping chestnut looks every inch a chaser but his trainer believes there’s plenty to come over the smaller obstacles first.

‘You’d have to be excited’

Fil Dor looked like the best juvenile around for the first half of the season. The plan is to go straight over fences as his trainer believes the four-year-old allowance will come in handy. His trainer said: “He’ll be dangerous. You’d have to be excited about him going chasing given the way he used to jump hurdles. He’s a talented horse.” This particularly bullish assessment will undoubtedly make Fil Dor one to look out for over the coming season. Having showed plenty of promise last year, fences could help him fulfil his potential.

‘She’ll take some stopping’

Queens Brook had a disrupted preparation for the Mares Hurdle at Cheltenham in March. For that reason, Elliott was absolutely delighted with her second-place finish. All roads lead back to Cheltenham according to her trainer who is exuding confidence. Gordon Elliott said: “she ran some race to finish second. We’re going to aim her at that race again and, if we get a clear run into it with her, she’ll take some stopping.” It’s hard to ignore this level of confidence and she could be one to follow.
