He has spotted a pretty large ongoing gamble taking place on a pair of Colin Tizzard-trained runners at Chepstow today. Trainer Colin Tizzard has had a decent winter period with his runners after quite the cold spell. Brendan Powell has turned out to be a terrific rider for the yard and is a highly promising rider. Powell will ride their horse in this handicap hurdle today and someone must have a few quid on!
Backed from highs of 40-1 all the way down to 8-1 in places this morning, the horse in question is Lanspark. He has been pulled up in both starts this term over fences and hurdles, but was a good winner of a three-mile hurdle at Taunton in March off 94 and is just 6lb higher now.
The other Tizzard horse that has been well supported in the betting is his only other runner of the day, Investment Manager, who will again be ridden by Brendan Powell. Backed from highs of 8-1 all the way into 3-1 this morning, that is a fairly substantial gamble and one must stand up and take note.
A six-year-old son of Nathaniel, he disappointed at Uttoxeter in December but his prior form looks strong in the context of this race. He won at Newton Abbot in October before narrowly failing over this course and distance in November, while he is just 2lb higher than that effort now.
