It’s always noteworthy when the money comes for a Charles Byrnes horse, especially so when multiple horses are the subject of sustained support. Byrnes has had just six runners at Downpatrick in the last five years and he’s set to have no fewer than four at the track on Monday. Some of which have been significantly well backed and the money is starting to come for another. We’ve combined all four runners into a 147-1 accumulator that could be worth considering. Dubeyeracingcraic (7-1 into 9-2) has had just one start over hurdles to date and the four-year-old filly was a well beaten third. The front two are probably useful however and the winner hails from the all-conquering Willie Mullins yard. Improvement will be needed but she’s entitled to find some and this isn’t the deepest maiden hurdle you’re likely to come across.
Reverend Hubert (11-10) has made a very solid start to his hurdling career, since joining from Richard Hannon. He was a good second on hurdles debut over just shy of two miles at Roscommon earlier this month and wasn’t beaten far when third at Tramore last time. This looks likes a good opportunity and the market seems to agree.
Grozni (9-2 into 7-2) wasn’t given too hard a time when third on chase debut at Limerick in May and almost definitely could have finished closer. His three subsequent chase efforts were all reasonable and he looks fully capable of winning over the larger obstacles.
I Am Spider Man (7-2 into 13-8) finished second in a handicap hurdle at Tramore earlier this month and makes his chase debut here. There’s evidence in his pedigree that the switch to fences will suit and the market seems to be expecting a big run here.
