Gamble alert: Ger Lyons horse smashed into 3-1 from 7-1 at Cork on Tuesday 🚨

Ireland is the home of big gambles and there is yet another one underway at Cork on Tuesday. Having been available at 7-1 on Monday evening, one runner has seen its price slashed into less than half that on Tuesday morning. Interestingly, this substantial move comes in the feature race of the day; the Listed Navigation Stakes. With €40,000 total prize money on offer, the market support suggests at least some of that will be going to the Ger Lyons stable. Now catapulted into favouritism, many eyes will be on Cork at 3.45. 3.45 Cork

Georgeville (3-1, William Hill) is no stranger to competing at this level or higher with 13 career starts in Stakes races. One of those starts did result in victory, a 1m2f Listed event at Leopardstown in October last year. He had Layfayette well-beaten in behind that day and he has since gone on to score at Group 3 and Group 2 level this season. It was a comfortable victory for Georgeville which came by two-and-a-half lengths.

Ger Lyons’ six-year-old hasn’t quite been the same so far this season however; especially over a mile which is the trip he faces today. That being said, he faces significantly lesser competition in this race than in the Group races he’s been running in. There’s every chance he can bounce back to form here.

His trainer runs two in this race and first choice jockey Colin Keane appears to have chosen to ride the stablemate. This adds another layer of intrigue to the gamble as it would suggest that the support isn’t based on yard confidence. The gelding has the form in the book to return to the winners’ enclosure here and it’ll be fascinating to see how this big gamble plays out.
