Gamble alert: Emmet Mullins’ Cambridgeshire contender smashed into 7/1f from 20/1

The £175,000 Cambridgeshire is one of the most competitive handicaps of the campaign and is always a highlight of the late Flat season. Always a fascinating beating heat, the excitement has started earlier with a significant ante-post plunge. Emmet Mullins trains the horse in question and it’s always worth taking note when the money comes for one of his runners. This Songisforyou is very lightly raced for a six-year-old and has only had six starts on the Flat. The son of Temple City has only failed to finish in the first three once and his very consistent profile makes him a lively contender for this race.

He claimed a very valuable prize at the Curragh when last seen, winning the Northfields Handicap on Irish Champions Festival weekend. It was a very smooth success as he travelled well throughout and the result never looked in doubt. Mullins’ gelding appeared to win with plenty in hand and there should be loads more to come.

John & Thady Gosden’s thoroughly unexposed handicapper Roi De France was the ante-post favourite before the gamble and he really could be anything. William Haggas’ Godwinson is also up near the head of the market and he was a winner at Goodwood last time out.

Colin Keane was on board for both of his victories so it’s positive that he takes the ride once again. This horse should have a rating of 100 according to the handicapper so he has to be dangerous off 98. A 4lb penalty isn’t expected to make much difference here and you can see why the money has come.
