It can be important to keep an eye on the betting markets, as plenty can be learned from doing so. Although there are never any guarantees, you can get a strong idea about the level of confidence behind a horse’s chances.
There’s a major market mover at Doncaster on Wednesday as one runner that was available at 66-1 on Tuesday evening is now as short as 10-1. The best available odds at time of writing are 12-1 so we’ll take a detailed look at the horse’s prospects. Why not check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Sammy’s Guarantee is the horse in question and she goes in the novice hurdle over an extended two miles. She began her career in a point-to-point back in April, where she finished second by half-a-length. Joining Tom Lacey’s yard in October, she’s had three runs over hurdles for her current connections.
None of her hurdles starts have been particularly encouraging however and she’s been beaten by a total of 98 lengths across all three. One would imagine she would be one for lesser handicaps further down the road but it would appear that there’s plenty of money coming for her here.
Tom Lacey had a particularly hot spell just before Christmas but hasn’t been too busy of late. One of his four runners in the last fortnight was a winner, giving him a 25 per cent strike-rate. That winner also happens to be his last runner and Sammy’s Guarantee is one of four for the trainer on the day.
The odds-on favourite for this race is Emma Lavelle’s Classic King and this previous winner over timber should prove hard to beat. We’ll need to see significant improvement from Tom Lacey’s charge if she’s to feature here but it’ll certainly be interesting to see how she gets on.
