Jessica Harrington has been an elite trainer over both codes for quite some time so it’s worth taking notice when she has a runner of significance. The significance of this runner is that she is sending just one horse on a 506-mile round trip from her County Kildare base to Ayr on Wednesday. You would like to think this horse has a strong chance and would need to in order to justify the herculean logistical effort. The feature race on the card is the Listed Tennent’s Lager British Stallion Studs EBF Rothesay Stakes for fillies and mares aged four or above. Harrington is sending The Blue Brilliant on the mammoth journey to try and capture the £30,906.95 first prize.
The four-year-old filly is still relatively lightly raced and she was beaten by the narrowest of margins in a Group 3 at Deauville in August when beaten by a nose. Two runs over 1m4f since haven’t quite gone to plan although her seasonal reappearance can be forgiven. Returning to 1m2f has to be a massive positive in what looks like a winnable race.
She’s a well bred filly being out of a Saddler’s Wells mare and by the useful Fastnet Rock. This is just her eighth career start so hopefully there’s more to come from her as a four-year-old and if there is, she’s unlikely to be far away at the finish.
