There’s action from eight tracks in Britain and Ireland on Friday and Adrian Wall has highlighted all of the interesting facts and stats, including Harry Skelton with two rides for an Irish trainer at Fontwell.
Harry Skelton doesn’t ride for too many trainers outside of his brother Dan but when he does he has an exceptional strike-rate and he will take the ride on the Ian Donoghue runner Mobile Mamma in the 3m2f mares’ handicap hurdle at Fontwell (6.25). This fascinating Irish raider finished second on debut for this yard at Killarney on return and although ran a shocker back hurdling at Wexford last time, the booking of Skelton is a tip in itself and the tongue-tie is refitted. She must have a big chance.
Donoghue and Skelton also team up with Double Power in the closing 2m2f handicap hurdle (7.33). He hasn’t shown a great deal yet and was only a respectable midfield at Tramore when last seen but it would be no surprise to see the money come for him now with Skelton aboard.
Looking at the stats, there’s a case to be made for newcomer Gobby Grace in the opening 6f fillies’ maiden at Goodwood (4.35). Richard Hughes’s profit to a £1 level stake with debutants is £64.46 while the number of Wootoon Bassett’s progeny that have won on Flat debut stands at 55 winners now! This filly could be worth a second look on her debut.
Wackestone looks set to go off a very warm order for the 2m4f maiden hurdle at Down Royal (6.12) and for good reason. Gordon Elliott has won the contest the last three years on the bounce and this is a very weak contest. He hasn’t set the world alight himself but his form is head and shoulders above the rest.
