Fact To File vs Galopin Des Champs – who will win the Savills Chase?

The Christmas horse racing feast continues on Saturday as we are treated to an epic clash in the Savills Chase at Leopardstown. Willie Mullins has a stranglehold on the race, with the top three in the betting hailing from his yard, but which one is going to come out on top?

2.35 Leopardstown

This year’s renewal of the Savills Chase at Leopardstown is set to be a thriller as Fact To File and Galopin Des Champs renew rivalry. The former came out on top when the pair last met in the John Durkan at Punchestown but that was over just shy of 2m4f so this is a totally different contest over the extended three miles.

Galopin Des Champs put in one of his best ever displays when winning this contest by 23 lengths from Gerri Colombe last year and if he’s in that sort of form this time around, he will be hard to stop. He built up a huge lead on the day and was never for catching.

Nonetheless, Fact To File has done absolutely nothing wrong in recent times and probably deserves to be a slight favourite for the clash. He beat his rival fair and square last time out and last season’s Brown Advisory winner is at the head of the Cheltenham Gold Cup market for a reason.

He met plenty of trouble too last time out and it’s fair to see the horse got Mark Walsh out of trouble on then day. The form has been done no favours with runner-up Spillane’s Tower underperforming in the King George, but Fact To File gets the nod here.
