‘Even the handicapper thinks he’s well in’ – 22/1, 16/1 and 7/1 Grand National tips

All National Hunt racing fans will be firmly focused on next month’s Cheltenham Festival but we also had the announcement of the Grand National weights this week. It’s never too early to get a head start and there’s value to be found in the ante-post markets.

With that in mind, we’ve picked out three possible runners who look potentially well treated at this stage. These include a JP McManus horse who even the handicapper thinks may have slipped through their grasp. Take a look at our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

Iroko

Trained by Oliver Greenall and Josh Guerriero, Iroko ran a cracker to finish fourth in last year’s renewal. He’s the ante-post favourite at the time of writing and for good reason. The son of Cokoriko has improved this year but because he’s been well placed, the handicapper has struggled to assess him. A mark of 157 could prove to be fairly generous and the handicapper suggested he might be well in.

Panic Attack

Dan Skelton’s mare has taken her form to a new level this season and she won two of Britain’s most valuable handicap chases. First up was the Paddy Power Gold Cup at Cheltenham and she then went on to take the Coral Gold Cup at Newbury. She’s currently on a mark of 147 and provided stamina isn’t an issue, a big run can’t be ruled out.

Lecky Watson

Willie Mullins has won this race for the last two years and he appears to have cracked the code. Last year’s Brown Advisory winner Lecky Watson has followed the I Am Maximus route of running in Grade 1 races throughout the season and he definitely has the ability to go close off this sort of mark.
