The Breeders’ Cup kicks off at Keeneland on Friday and there’s always plenty of international flavour. Europe is well represented in the turf races on Day 1 as usual and it could be a good night. We’ve picked out three runners who could upset the hosts and go on to glory. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
The Platinum Queen (7-2, William Hill) has been an exceptional juvenile for connections so far. Second in the Nunthorpe Stakes, she won the Prix de l’Abbaye at Longchamp when last seen. These are two very impressive performances from a tw0-year-old which make her an excellent candidate here. She would prove a popular and well-deserved winner with the excellent Hollie Doyle on-board.
Meditate (11-4, William Hill) was perhaps slightly disappointing in the Moyglare Stud Stakes two starts ago. Having won at Royal Ascot and in Group 2 company at the Curragh, she looked a sure thing in Group 1 company. Didn’t quite have the toe for 6f in the Middle Park and the step up to a mile should suit. This is a good opportunity to bounce back and claim her first top-level win. Aidan O’Brien rarely avoids having a winner at the Breeders’ Cup and this filly rates as one of his best chances.
Silver Knott (11-8, bet365) relished the step up to a mile at Newmarket last time. He hated the soft ground at Doncaster two starts ago and loved the better ground at HQ. There should be more to come from this progressive colt who can provide Charlie Appleby with back-to-back wins in this race. William Buick rarely misses when riding for Appleby in the States and the pair can score again here.
