It has been a tumultuous few weeks for Kevin Stott as the former retained rider for Amo Racing was unceremoniously stripped of his position. Stott is now freelance once again and he is picking up plenty of rides. He’s a busy man at Wolverhampton on Monday with six rides. Two of which are of note due to their popularity in the market. The two horses in question were available at 33-1 and 20-1 on Sunday evening but sustained market support has seen their odds slashed into 12-1 and 8-1 respectively. Billian was dropped a pound by the handicapper for a disappointing effort over course and distance last time out. He won an amateur jockeys’ handicap off a 2lb lower mark back in May, with the help of a 7lb claimer. Philip Kirby’s charge has had a break since and that may have freshened him up. This five-year-old is a course and distance winner under Stott, scoring in a weak race back in March. Billian isn’t the most consistent but the formbook suggests that he’s capable of putting in a big run. His supporters will probably learn their fate early on in the race, as a fast start will be crucial.
Blue Collar Lad wasn’t well fancied at all on Sunday and was priced up at 33-1. Sustained support on Monday morning has seen his price slashed into just 12-1. Robyn Brisland’s charge has been disappointing in his last four starts but that has caused him to slip to an attractive mark. He was a winner over 7f on the turf at Lingfield under Billy Loughnane in June, off a mark of 57. Now on a 2lb lower mark, he should be there or thereabouts.
