Davy Russell has revealed the one horse he would back at Cheltenham

Davy Russell rode plenty of Cheltenham Festival winners during his career and as a result, he’s a very well respected voice. Associated with the Gordon Elliott yard, he has picked out a Willie Mullins hotpot as his charity bet for this year’s Festival. The horse in question is one of the big ante-post favourites but Russell is more than happy with the current price. ‘He’s crying out for three miles’

Ballyburn is set to step up to three miles for the first time since landing an Irish point and Davy Russell is convinced by his chances. When asked for his Cheltenham Festival charity bet, he wasted no time in nominating this gelding.

Russell said: “He’s crying out for three miles, he’s the old fashioned type of horse that I’d love to drop him in, take your time and just don’t get involved. Once he relaxes anyway at all, I actually feel he jumps brilliant, if I was riding him I’d love the way he goes in all the way. I’d have no qualms about Ballyburn, people go on about him, he just actually needs to be behind the pace and relaxed.”
