‘Conditions won’t be a problem’ – Heavy ground horses to follow at Leicester

The rain is continuing to fall across Britain and Ireland, which means that we’re getting lots of abandonments and the racing that does take place will be in very testing conditions. That’s certainly the case at Leicester on Thursday and the official going description is heavy. Some horses will thrive in the conditions and others will get stuck in the mud so we’ve picked out some of the former to follow. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

2.05 Leicester

Mon Champion knows what it’s like to run on heavy ground and the softer underfoot conditions inspired significant improvement at Hereford last time out. A 4lb rise should be manageable and having won on heavy in France, the conditions won’t be a problem here.

2.40 Leicester

Stamina Chope has been performing consistently since the spring and she won well here on soft ground over hurdles in November. Dave Roberts’ mare scored nicely over fences on heavy ground at Ffos Las last month and and could be worth siding with, now back over the larger obstacles.

3.15 Leicester

Hawk Stone is one of just two runners to have won on heavy ground before and the seven-year-old returned form with a solid second in similar conditions at Ffos Las when last seen. Running off the same mark here, the son of Diamond Boy should be very competitive once again.

3.50 Leicester

Rosscahill looked smart when winning a maiden and a novice hurdle last season and the second of those came on heavy ground in December 2024. His last two efforts have admittedly been a little disappointing but conditions will suit and the lightly raced gelding will improve for his latest run.
