Temperatures have been soaring across the country in the last couple of days. Hot and dry weather means quick ground and this is certainly the case at Bath for their meeting on Tuesday. Ground conditions will be rapid as the current going description is firm. This is relatively rare at British racecourses so you may want to be on the look out for horses with proven form in similar conditions. We’ve picked out four runners with good records on firm or good to firm ground to consider for a huge 202-1 accumulator. Hidden Depths (11-4, bet365) has a 50 per cent strike-rate on firm ground, winning two of his four starts. He has also placed on the majority of his starts on good to firm. With this in mind, he looks like a very solid bet especially when considering he won his last flat start in France. This tells us he’s in fine form and the conditions here should enable that to continue.
Ruby Cottage (11-4, bet365) is yet to finish out of the first two in four starts on firm ground. She was desperately close over course and distance last time out off a 1lb lower mark. Her course record is also exceptional and she is continuing to progress at four. The combination of ideal ground, course and distance should provide a great opportunity to return to the winner’s enclosure.
Cafe Sydney (9-2, bet365) finished third in her only start on firm ground. Despite not having won on firm, her record of two wins and four places in 11 starts on good to firm provides the evidence needed to suggest that she’ll run a big race. Tony Carroll’s mare finished third here over 1m2f and should appreciate the step up in trip having won comfortably off this mark over 1m4f at Lingfield in January.
There are two horses in this race with 100 per cent records on firm ground but Hurricane Helen (13-8, bet365) gets the nod as her recent form is stronger. This filly won over course and distance two starts ago off a 4lb lower mark and ran well when third in a better race at Salisbury last time out. Dropping back into Class 6 company should suit and a big run is expected.
