Cheltenham is getting closer – here’s three Willie Mullins dark horses to follow

Finally! It’s more like the good ol’ days. Not an odds-on favourite in sight! That’s the way we want the Cheltenham Festival to be – competitive! And with that means we might have a few Willie Mullins-trained runners who are overpriced at present!

Adrian Wall has picked out a few at juicy odds who might prove to be a bit of value next month!

Anzadam
Champion Hurdle, 20-1

Mullins has admitted that he hasn’t given up hope on Anzadam and he might prove to be better value than stablemate Poniros for the Champion Hurdle. The son of Authorized was a perfect 4-4 before finishing second to Golden Ace in the Fighting Fifth, and he was around six lengths behind Lossiemouth when fourth in the December Hurdle at Leopardstown. He was well beaten at the Dublin Racing Festival but in a race that could cut up, he might not be this sort of price on the day on spring ground.

Bentraghhill
Champion Bumper, 14-1

The Closutton team will have many live chances in the Champion Bumper but I can’t help but feel this boy is still overpriced. He made short work of his rivals in a good bumper at Leopardstown’s Christmas meeting and although that form doesn’t look awful strong, he has a big engine and should be well suited to this test.

Leader d’Allier
Supreme Novices’ Hurdle, 14-1

Mullins has no standout Supreme horse just yet but this boy could be the answer. A Grade 3 bumper winner in France, he looked in need of the run on stable debut when second behind Ballyfad, but won a Punchestown maiden hurdle in style since and the runner-up has franked the form.
