Cheltenham bound? 33-1 Gold Cup candidate runs at Galway for JP McManus 🏆

A fairly run-of-the-mill meeting at Galway on Tuesday could have some added Cheltenham flavour as a Grade 1 winner at the Punchestown Festival makes his seasonal reappearance. It’s not out of the question that he’ll be aimed at the Gold Cup and is currently available at 33-1 for that race. Emmet Mullins trains the horse in question and he’s a recent JP McManus purchase. 3.35 Galway

Feronily runs in the Mongey Communications Chase and this will be his first start over fences since winning the Champion Novice Chase at Punchestown in April. That was a fantastic performance on just his second start over fences and there were plenty of smart horses in behind.

Emmet Mullins’ charge is not going to be an interesting bet for this race as his price isn’t going to blow anyone away. However, he’s currently 33-1 for the Gold Cup at Cheltenham in March. This is certainly an intriguing price for a horse who has scored at Grade 1 level at a major spring meeting. The best is yet to come from Feronily and he’ll improve with more experience.

There will be plenty of tougher challenges than this further down the line but he’s certainly promising. JP McManus will be expecting big things and would have had to go big to get him. He has successfully bought from Paul Byrne in the past and this buy looks particularly shrewd. Plenty of improvement is required if he’s to become a legitimate Gold Cup contender but this is an exciting horse to go to war with.
