British raiders to Ireland are certainly common. Probably not common enough, but there is certainly nothing unusual about it. However, what has to be interesting is the fact that Yorkshire-based training duo John & Sean Quinn send a runner over to run at the Curragh Racecourse on Sunday.
It is a long journey totalling circa 637 miles as a round trip and they aren’t going over there just to make up the numbers. It would cost a pretty penny just on the fuel alone so the horse will need to run well to justify being sent across the Irish Sea. Best of luck if you have a play and always bet responsibly.
The race in question is the 1m premier handicap and recent York winner Empirestateofmind bids to follow up and land a nice pot. Jason Hart, who is aboard again, gave this lad a superb ride when seeing off the attentions of Thunder Roar by a nose in a thrilling finish when last seen. The ground was testing that day and he loves a bit of cut, so he will enjoy the forecast soft ground again here.
Thunder Roar won nicely at Redcar recently to give the form a real boost and although he has a 5lb rise in the weights to contend with, he was rated in the low 100s only last year so he is still nicely treated on the pick of his form. Typically you want to be drawn fairly high at the moment at the Curragh but stall eight is a fine berth. He will be given a forceful enough ride and has every chance.
