BREAKING: Superstar Enable has been retired with immediate effect

It has been announced on Monday morning that the superstar mare Enable will be retired with immediate effect.

John Gosden’s mare was a two-time winner of arguably the most prestigious race in Europe, the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

The news comes after she finished sixth in this years renewal when chasing a record-breaking third victory in the race. That is something that has never been achieved before.

Rumours of a potential farewell race on Champions Day at Ascot this weekend was subsequently kicked out of the equation.

Owner-breeder Prince Khalid Abdullah’s Juddmonte operation released a statement on Monday morning. They confirmed the news she will not be seen on the racecourse again.

Stud awaits the great mare

Douglas Erskine Crum, CEO of Juddmonte, said: “After consulting her trainer John Gosden and his racing manager Teddy Grimthorpe, Prince Khalid has decided that Enable will be retired from racing and will now join the Juddmonte broodmare band to be covered by Kingman in 2021”.

She had an illustrious 19 race career which spanned across 5 seasons. In that time she won 11 Group Ones and record prize-money earnings of £10.7 million.

The history book will say she is the most successful performer in Arc history. She created more history when landing three King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes and five Oaks across the UK and Ireland.

She is the only horse ever to have won an Arc and at the Breeders’ Cup in the same year.

Teddy Grimthorpe said: “She has brought so much joy to everyone who has been involved with her. Her elegance and forceful personality have been nurtured by John and his team at Clarehaven, especially by Imran who has looked after her with such calm and devotion. In her, Frankie found a willing partner to execute her ability on the racecourse. Her CV withstands the closest of inspections, very few can match what she has given to racing.”
