‘Both parents did it so why can’t he?’ – 20/1 ante-post tip for the 2000 Guineas

The first classic of the Flat season in Britain is the 2000 Guineas which is set to take place at Newmarket in May. Whilst it’s not worth pretending that odds-on favourite City Of Troy isn’t the most likely winner, he’s not worth backing at those odds. This means there’s some potential value to be found and we’ve picked one out at 20/1 that looks overpriced.

The horse in question has been bred to win the race and will thrive when stepped up in trip this season. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing. Aintree’s Grand National Festival is soon upon us and we’ll have tips and content across all three days.

Task Force

Ralph Beckett’s colt had three starts as a two-year-old and he was a smooth winner of the first two. This included a comfortable victory in Listed company at Redcar in August.

Losing his unbeaten streak in the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket in September, he ran a fine race to finish second behind an impressive winner.

His impeccable pedigree is to die for and it feels like he’s been bred for the purpose of winning here. Out of 2000 Guineas winner Frankel and by 1000 Guineas scorer Special Duty, this race should be tailor-made for him.

The step up in trip can be a huge help to task force as Frankel provides some stamina to his pedigree. 6f was the furthest he went as a juvenile and the extra two furlongs should unlock his potential.

It’s likely to be an uphill battle for all the runners here if City Of Troy fulfils the potential he showed as a juvenile. But there are never any guarantees in this game and if both of Task Force’s parents did it, why can’t he?
