There’s a substantial gamble underway at Lingfield on Wednesday as one runner’s price has completely collapsed. One firm priced the horse up at 8-1 last night but the money started coming immediately. The horse in question was available at 10-3 first thing this morning but that didn’t last too long as the current best price is a measly 6-4. This could be one to keep an eye on throughout the morning and it’ll be interesting to see the outcome. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
The two-year-old novice stakes finds Sporting Hero (6-4, Paddy Power) at the head of the market. George Boughey’s juvenile finished fifth on debut at Newmarket and hasn’t been seen since. A smart horse of Charlie Appleby’s won that race before going on to win the Gimcrack Stakes at York next time. This suggests that there’s no shame in being beaten 11 lengths by that rival.
As that was Sporting Hero’s debut it would be reasonable to expect him to progress and improve for that run so we should see a better performance second time out. His dam was a three-time winner over 5f as a two-year-old and his sire beat No Nay Never in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint. The evidence in his pedigree suggests he should be precocious enough and possess the speed to win this season.
Andrea Atzeni is an eye-catching jockey booking as he has an impressive record on the all-weather track at Lingfield this season. In 11 rides, he has ridden six winners and placed five times giving him an impressive strike-rate of 55 per cent. This is a particularly positive omen which should further increase confidence.
