Bookies beware! Willie Mullins is sending one runner to Doncaster on Friday

Willie Mullins is the subject of nightmares for bookies up and down Britain. He’s a regular raider on these shores and his well supported runners tend to go close, often coming out on top. The County Carlow-based trainer is set to send just one runner over to Doncaster on Friday and the horse in question is worth keeping an eye on. A winner over hurdles this summer, he ran well in the Ebor when last seen. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

3.00 Doncaster

Hipop De Loire arrives here off the back of a decent performance in the Ebor at York, where he finished sixth. Mullins’ eight-year-old didn’t quite have the pace to launch a serious challenge and this marathon trip could make a big difference for him.

Winning nicely over hurdles on his penultimate start, he obliged at the second time of asking in that sphere. He saw out the 2m6f trip will and pulled clear to score by 11 lengths at Galway. Stamina isn’t going to be a problem here on the evidence of that performance.

The son of American Post was a Listed winner over 1m6f in Germany for previous connections, taking the Hoppegartener Steher-Preis at Hoppegarten back in 2022. We haven’t seen much of him since he joined Mullins so perhaps he isn’t the easiest to train.

There should be more to come from him however and it’ll be interesting to see how well he takes to the new trip. John & Thady Gosden’s Sweet William is the one to beat on ratings but he loses more than he wins and is therefore opposable.
