Monaghan-based trainer Anthony McCann wouldn’t be known for sending too many horses across the water, although he has sent seven runners across to Wolverhampton in the last five years without success.
Nonetheless, it has to be interesting that the handler will send two horses on the 580-mile round trip to Wolverhampton Racecourse on Friday from his base in Castleblaney.
McCann doesn’t have the best of strike rates but it costs a fair sum to bring them across. Let’s take a look at the horses in more detail below, but you can also find all of our free horse racing tips on the website too.
The first runner of the evening for McCann runs in the opening extended 1m1f apprentice handicap and Muhalhel must have a chance. The son of Lope De Vega has only won once in 26 starts, which was when trained by William Haggas when scoring at Leicester in 2021. He ran a good race when last seen at Dundalk when fifth to Comfort Line. It was a much stronger race than this and he can run off a 2lb lower here.
Last but certainly not least, McCann’s final runner of the night is Circles, who will run in the 7f handicap, and it has to be interesting that Billy Loughnane, one of the best young jockeys around, is booked for the ride. Circles has been running really well at Dundalk during the autumn and winter, and was beaten by the smallest of margins in a handicap there last month behind Sunset Nova. That looks fairly strong form in the context of this race and the mare looks poised to strike.
