‘Always go low over a mile’ – Three well drawn horses to follow at Pontefract

Every track is different and some have pronounced draw biases and Pontefract is a good example of that. The stats suggest that horses with a low draw in races over a mile have a significant advantage and a slight advantage over 6f. We have you covered however so here are three runners on Tuesday who should benefit from a low draw. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

2.10 Pontefract

Baggot Street showed signs of improvement when finishing third on handicap debut at Kempton recently. That was her first try over 7f and her finishing effort suggests the return to 6f is a big positive. Charlie Johnston’s filly is entitled to progress again and Billy Loughnane has been booked for the ride. Stall two is a nice draw and there will be no excuses on that front.

3.10 Pontefract

Royal Dress has contested Group races in two starts this season and although she has struggled a bit, the drop in grade can make a big difference. The daughter of Night Of Thunder was an impressive winner of a Group 3 at the Curragh last summer and a reproduction of that form will surely give her every chance in this lower grade. Consistency isn’t her forte but she’s more than capable when on song.

4.40 Pontefract

Beltadaay struggled in his first couple of starts this season but bolted up at Lingfield last time. It’s hard to argue with a 7lb rise on that evidence and the extra half-a-furlong won’t go amiss either. He should still be ahead of the handicapper, who may not catch up for a while. Softer ground would probably be preferred but it would be unwise to rule out this lightly raced gelding.
