Aintree Day 2 Outsiders: Liam fancies a Gordon Elliott horse at a massive 25-1 💪

Day two of the Aintree Grand National Festival brings seven more races of enthralling action to sink your teeth into. Be sure to check out our free tips page where we will have content for Aintree over the next couple of days as well as all British and Irish meetings. The Aintree festival can be tricky as the racing is very competitive. You have to weigh up the form of horses who missed Cheltenham and if these fresher horses have an advantage or disadvantage over those who ran there. Here are three outsiders available at big prices that are capable of outrunning their massive odds.

1.45 Aintree

Garry Clermont has been consistent this season and he’s been running in some of the better handicaps on the fixture list. It was a good effort to finish third in the Betfair Exchange Trophy at Ascot in December. That race is one of the top three two-mile handicap hurdles in Britain outside of the Festival. On the evidence of his third at Ascot over an extended 2m3f in January, he’ll be suited by a strong pace which he is likely to get here and that will hopefully ensure that it doesn’t become a sprint. He was one of many to pull up in atrocious conditions in the Coral Cup which you can forgive especially at this price.

4.05 Aintree

Battleoverdoyen has been competing in graded chases in his last two starts. He finished second to Envoi Allen at Leopardstown over Christmas over an inadequate trip of 2m1f. The last time he was victorious over a similar trip was in a maiden hurdle in 2018. This horse hasn’t quite fulfilled his potential as a Grade 1 winner over both hurdles and fences over 2m4f and three miles respectively. Better ground seems to be the key to him as he has run sparingly over the winter. A unique test such as this has brought out the best in many a horse and he should be capable of running well at a big price.

5.15 Aintree

Severance has the assistance of one of the best 3lb claimers around in the form of Kevin Brogan. The six-year-old gelding is having his first run since having wind surgery last month. Having bumped into the useful Cormier at Cheltenham and Kelso the last twice he’ll be glad to not see that rival here. Two miles is clearly this horse’s trip and he should be capable of going close off this mark of 125. Hopefully the breathing operation has the desired effect which may help him to see out his races better.
