Iconic Irish trainer Aidan O’Brien is operating at an incredible 26 per cent strike rate this year. Considering he often runs several in one race, that return is quite something and with the yard in great form, it has to be hugely interesting that he sends just one horse to Killarney Racecourse on Wednesday. He has won the race twice in recent years and he has a 23 per cent return at the track in the last five years. Let’s take a look at the horse in question in more detail below.
Running in the competitive Listed Cairn Rouge Stakes, the horse in question is Unless, who will receive weight off some of her rivals thanks to her age. She is out of Justify, the same horse who sired impressive Newmarket Superlative Stakes winner City Of Troy last week at the July Festival and he is a sire that O’Brien thinks an awful lot of.
Unless is still a young filly and she is tipped to improve with age. She won a maiden at Naas over a mile in May and followed that up with a solid fourth of 29 runners in the Sandringham Fillies’ Handicap at Royal Ascot. She missed the break that way and was slowly away, so she had an awful lot of work to do to get back into the race and her run can be marked up judged on that.
O’Brien is a master at improving these types with racing and it would be no surprise whatsoever if Unless put in a career best. It will be no surprise if she goes off a lot shorter.
