Matt first went racing in February 1982 at just 3 months old. Attracted to the sport by Desert Orchid in the late 80's, a media degree started a path to horse racing journalism. Owner of many horses and greyhounds through the years, the latter has led to the formation of the myracing greyhound syndicate, a Greyhound Writers Association membership as well as appearances on Racing Post Greyhound TV.
Only one runner for the myracing.com Greyhound Syndicate at Crayford. Jacobs Fire steps back in trip for a crack at a winnable looking A5 contest. Let’s have a closer look at how we think she’ll get on today.
Today’s preview comes from one of our syndicate managers, David Mitchell.
Today’s Syndicate Runner
Jacobs Fire – Really found her trapping boots lately over 540m and should have enough early to compete with these over this shorter trip. In her last two races over the extended trip she’s led them a merry dance just to be caught in the shadow of the post. She’s only a pup and we know she’ll get the 6 bends strong eventually but this return to 380m is welcomed by all connected to the dog. If she comes here in the same form as her recent efforts she’ll be a difficult dog to beat.
Today’s Opponents
Next Move – Returned to this level with a cracking effort last. Although that was a nice run he would still need to find time on the clock to really trouble the like of Jacobs Fire here. He’s drawn well and in-form, he must be respected but this race could be a little hot for him tonight.
Key Shot – Drop in grade and a welcome rest last week after traffic problems stopped her from running in her intended race. Her lack of early pace is a cause for concern and shes no getting any younger. It would take a monumental effort to get involved with the main protagonists in this field.
Swift Leane – Another dropping in grade tonight after some below par efforts lately. This dog was competing at A3 level at the start of July and she would be one of the more interesting competitors in this field. A latest 23.87 is good and if she could produce that with a low 3.60 split she could go well.
Amazing Choice – Running well here lately going through the grades at a rate of knots. She was given a go at hurdles but didn’t look like taking to them so connections have opted to carry on down this route. Plenty of improvement still to come and with a decent break from the boxes she could throw it down to Jacobs Fire.
Ballydaniel Boss – Not in great form at present and is probably needing a drop in grade sooner rather than later. Would probably need a career best effort to make his presence felt in this field. For us he would need a lot of things to go wrong for the dogs inside to really get involved.
This looks like a good opportunity for Jacobs Fire. She’s in great form recently and this drop in trip will suit her perfectly. The danger is in trap 5 but we really don’t know how the change in discipline has affected that dog. If Fire can break and get on the bunny early she should be up to winning this.
