Matt first went racing in February 1982 at just 3 months old. Attracted to the sport by Desert Orchid in the late 80's, a media degree started a path to horse racing journalism. Owner of many horses and greyhounds through the years, the latter has led to the formation of the myracing greyhound syndicate, a Greyhound Writers Association membership as well as appearances on Racing Post Greyhound TV.
Third last Monday wasn’t quite enough for Droopys Hyde to make his third successive Owners Bonus Series Final, but he is quickly back into action on Sunday afternoon. Our greyhound tips will be online before 6.00pm tonight, featuring racing from both Towcester and Poole. All eyes will be on Henlow this afternoon however for Hyde.
4.07pm Henlow 18/02/2018 A5 Grade
Droopys Hyde – Having smashed the lids and produced a career best at the end of January, his trapping has been lost again since. That’s pretty much the way he is, if he comes away (especially from this draw) he has a winning chance.
Queenie – Feast or famine from the boxes, she has pinged out with some very smart sectionals for this grade but she has also (as last time) absolutely walked out! Was two grades higher at the start of 2018 so certainly well capable if hitting the lids.
Firgrove Beauty – Not masses of early, but she has really started to come home strongly in recent starts. She was behind Hyde at the end of January when getting a clear run so she has work to do to reverse those placings this afternoon.
Savana Richard – Young baby picked up an A6 at the end of January, unable to cope with this grade on his first try at it last time. Has only had four starts in his career so needs consideration for all that he has plenty to find on the clock.
Blackrose Ryan – Promising here early last summer, he was completely unsuited by running at Harlow of late. Back here will see him in a better light and he may yet begin to fulfil his obvious potential.
Monalee Celt – Veteran has smart early pace for this grade and should lead up the outside. Not close to her old best form in recent wins, but a 28.14 at the start of the year when everything went right for her would see her right in the mix at this level.
Conclusion
An intriguing little A5 contest, Hyde’s chance will rely on coming away in his best fashion. The 2 was a couple of grades higher last month but is an inconsistent starter and Hyde has beaten the 3 of late so if coming away he can lead up the inside. He may not lead up the 6 so it will be interesting to see how he drives the bend if she’s on his outside. Both the 4 and 5 are lightly raced and open to improvement but they will need to be on the clock if they are to trouble those with recent times in the book.
