17/1 double: Harry Skelton is 5/6 at Stratford and has two rides on Tuesday

Stratford has been a happy hunting ground for Harry Skelton since the new National Hunt season started. The former Champion Jockey has had just six rides there during the current campaign, coming away with five winners. This gives him an impressive strike-rate of 83 per cent and he’s set to ride two there on Tuesday so we’ve combined them into a double. Cusano (2/1, bet365) managed to win in France for previous connections but he never set the world alight. The four-year-old son of Harry Angel has had three starts over hurdles for Dan Skelton and this looks like a good opportunity to get off the mark.

His jumping prevented him from finishing closer at Ludlow last month and it was a much better effort on that front when runner-up next time. Better would probably have been expected on handicap debut last time but it would be dangerous to give up on him just yet.

5.40 Stratford

Hot Fizzy Lizzy (5/1, Paddy Power) has a very different pedigree and she’s a proper National Hunt type. She managed to win a bumper at Southwell in May 2023 and it’s a surprise that she remains a maiden over hurdles. This is a particularly weak maiden however and a similar effort to her course and distance third in November should be enough.

It was a pretty poor performance from Dan Skelton’s mare at Warwick last month but that was her first start since November and improvement is anticipated. Whilst she’s probably running out of chances, she might only need one more in order to do the business here.
