136-1 treble: three horses who will relish the mud at Clonmel on Thursday 🌧️

Conditions at Clonmel are currently on the testing side. The current going description is soft to heavy and are set to stay that way. With that in mind, the horses with a preference for better ground could find life difficult. On the flip side, those who relish getting their toe in the ground should thrive. We’ve picked out three such horses who should relish the soft underfoot conditions. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

1.47 Clonmel

Blanketontheground (4-1, bet365) has been unfortunate not to get her head in front recently as she’s been the model of consistency. Bumped into a well handicapped horse of Gordon Elliott’s at Galway last time out when finishing second. Yet to finish out of the first two on soft to heavy ground, she should thrive in these conditions which can facilitate a return to the winners’ enclosure.

2.23 Clonmel

Dolcita‘s (9-2, William Hill) best efforts have all come with significant ease in the ground. She has successfully placed in both starts on heavy and has been in the first two in four of her five starts on soft. These soft to heavy conditions provide the perfect middle ground upon which she will thrive. Despite needing to find improvement to compete with the front two, conditions should help to bridge the gap.

2.53 Clonmel

Pencilfulloflead (4-1, bet365) has four wins and two placed efforts to his name in eight starts on soft or heavy ground. This makes him the ideal candidate for this race. This horse hasn’t had the best time with injuries and does have a substantial lay-off to overcome but he’s a progressive chaser with plenty of class. Narrowly denied in a Grade 1 novice chase back in 2020, if fit enough he’s good enough to win.
