Matt first went racing in February 1982 at just 3 months old. Attracted to the sport by Desert Orchid in the late 80's, a media degree started a path to horse racing journalism. Owner of many horses and greyhounds through the years, the latter has led to the formation of the myracing greyhound syndicate, a Greyhound Writers Association membership as well as appearances on Racing Post Greyhound TV.
There is a cracking card at Crayford this evening but the myracing syndicate will have their sights set on the morning card where Jacobs Fire will go to the traps for the third time in her career. Our greyhound tips will be split between Sheffield and Crayford tonight with some decent contests at both tracks.
12.31pm Crayford 26/06/2018 A6 Grade
Deanridge Beast – A1 at Yarmouth last summer, this track doesn’t suit him anywhere near as well. Won in this grade last month in 24.15 but he is just 2/24 here overall and without any early, things need to drop back in his lap perfectly for him to score.
Metric Lisa – Smashed the lids when winning in this grade on the 2nd of June, she is drawn between a pair of slow starters today. Not a regular when it comes to a ping break but 23.79 and 23.80 wins at this level the last twice in this grade shows she needs plenty of consideration.
Jacobs Fire – Slow starts have been her undoing so far, running on well to the pick-up on both occasions. Still a baby, this is all a learning curve for her but we look unlikely to see the best from her until she goes up in trip.
Lisnafulla Fancy – A4 upon grading in here last month but she took her overall record at the track to 0/8 when a beaten favourite dropped to this level last time. 23.95 is her race best, she is in danger of becoming expensive to follow for supporters.
Ferryforth Alice – Promising pup has plenty of early pace, climbing the grades from A8 to A5. She should enjoy the step down a level here and in a race where there isn’t an awful lot of pace to the bend, she has solid claims on the prize.
Forourenjoyment – Out of action since being knocked over in February, she has shaped well in a pair of trials to get back on the card. On those bare times she would be right in the mix but she is entitled to come on for the run back in race company.
Conclusion
Jacobs Fire is yet to show any early pace in her races but she is still only a baby learning the ropes. The 5 looks the most likely leader of these, back down a level should see her well in the mix. The 2 has the odd turn of early and with slow starters either side of her, she is probably the best drawn hound in the race. We are unlikely to see the best of Jacobs Fire until she goes over 6 bends but if she learns to trap, there are going to be races to be won with her at this trip before she steps up.
