Matt first went racing in February 1982 at just 3 months old. Attracted to the sport by Desert Orchid in the late 80's, a media degree started a path to horse racing journalism. Owner of many horses and greyhounds through the years, the latter has led to the formation of the myracing greyhound syndicate, a Greyhound Writers Association membership as well as appearances on Racing Post Greyhound TV.
It’s a quick turnaround for Droopys Hyde at lunchtime today having only run on Sunday. He has the red jacket on his back today which is a positive for him as he tries to confirm his stamina over the 550m trip. Our greyhound tips will be live on site before 6.00pm this evening, with Hove’s Open races the main focus.
12.24pm Henlow 29/03/2018 S3 Grade
Droopys Hyde – Ran a little better than the official margin suggests on Sunday, though he didn’t get a chance to prove that he stays this new trip. This trap will suit him better than 3 did there so we should learn more. The outside pair look tough nuts to crack, however.
Silverview Sweep – Slow starter outside Hyde should allow our boy room to operate on the short run to the bend. Sweep was beaten a length by Hyde when they met earlier this month, but this youngster shapes as if the step up in trip will see her in a better light.
Mustang Elmo – Not a regular winner, he was turned over a couple of times in S4 grade when last seen over this trip in the autumn. Running well enough in A6 grade of late, but makes little appeal in this line-up.
Kanes Dynasty – Strong runner never got into a challenging position when behind Hyde on Sunday. She clocked a 34.01 the time before so is clearly capable of better, but her slow starts are holding her back from fulfilling her potential.
Savana Dolly – Smart hound on her day, she blitzed this grade back in November in a slick 33.59. A repeat of that would blow this field out the water, but she lacks consistency. If she is on a going day, she is going to be very tough to beat, with a 3/5 record in this grade.
Marys Belle – A winner in this grade on the 19th March, she should be the one to put in the early work. Others stay this trip better than her, picked up close home in runs either side of that win. May need a little trouble in behind for her to hold on.
Conclusion
This looks a tougher S3 race than the one on Sunday in which Hyde was fourth. When the 5 gets things right, she is a very smart bitch at this level, with an exceptional record in this grade to boot. 6 looks like leading these up so she needs plenty of respect, with the 2 shaping over 460m that this step up in trip will see her in a better light. Hyde can get more competitive with the draw in his favour than he did on Sunday, a step forward on that showing would be a pleasing result.
