You need a slice of luck in greyhound racing. A missed break, a bump at the bend can send a bet into a downward spiral and having had 5 places from 6 selections over Thursday and Friday nights (with all 5 clearly the fastest hounds in the race) we could be forgiven for thinking that Lady Luck was not on our side. That all changed in Scotland Saturday night however as the Scottish Derby 1st round flew into action with a greyhound tips clean sweep!
The whitewash began in just the second race on the card as the NB, Newinn Champ lined up in the puppy contest. He missed the kick and having found trouble at the bend he had a bit of work to do. He showed excellent middle pace however and as they turned for home, he was always going to pick up the front running Ballymac Odowd, a comfortable two lengths the winning margin for the 11/8 tip.
The NAP was in action just two races later, plenty of early pace meant holding a 1st bend position was vital, he did just that before unleashing his customary back straight pace to leave them trailing in his wake from halfway to record a rapid 28.97. The NAP is now 5/1 3rd favourite to take home the Scottish Derby and on his Saturday run, it’s not hard to see why after this 1/1 win!
It was an hours wait for the final runner of the night but there wasn’t even a split second of worry as Mucho Macho Man, a raider from the powerful Paul Hennessy kennel in Ireland pinged the lids and was never put under any pressure to saunter home 6 lengths to the good, completing a greyhound tips clean sweep at 13/8.
A wet and windy night in Bedfordshire on Sunday saw the greyhound tips at their traditional Sunday home of Henlow. The unique track with it’s side straight has been a happy hunting ground for the greyhound tips over the past few months, proving to be so again with a second clean sweep in a row!
The evening started once again with the NB, in the second race of the night. 1/1 was the price for the wily old veteran, Mays Teejay. He had a tricky looking draw in 4 but overcame crowding round the bend to get himself in front on the jam stick by a neck. A courageous performance from a canny performer to give us 4 winners in a row!
Greenhill Gem had capped her 2015 with a runner up effort in the final of Newcastle’s ‘Angel of the North’ Oaks competition. She looked a rick at 5/4 on paper and proved exactly that on the sand. She didn’t trap instantly but she showed brute early to just sneak round in front. From there it was all over bar the shouting as she kept up the gallop all the way to the line to smash in a 5th winner on the bounce.
The final race of the night was NAP time! Jet Stream Sound can be a bit of a feast or famine dog, a flying machine on his best but not always the electric trapper that you need for Henlow’s 550m trip with a short run to the bend. He came away second, the 1 getting up his inside at the bend, his main market rival had stolen first march on the NAP. Canny trackcraft however saw Kevin Hutton’s hound switch inside the 1 as they passed the stands first time, sending a brave run up the inside to take the lead into the backstraight. The 1 kept him honest all the way to the line but the NAP was always holding him for a monster BOOOOOOM and the second clean sweep in as many nights for more than £100 profit from just 6 winners!
