Matt first went racing in February 1982 at just 3 months old. Attracted to the sport by Desert Orchid in the late 80's, a media degree started a path to horse racing journalism. Owner of many horses and greyhounds through the years, the latter has led to the formation of the myracing greyhound syndicate, a Greyhound Writers Association membership as well as appearances on Racing Post Greyhound TV.
Jacobs Fire is the only runner of the day at Crayford for the myracing.com Greyhound Syndicate. She led them a merry dance last week but inexperience got the better of her that day. Let’s take a look at her chances of landing an S4 this week.
Tuesday’s preview comes from one of our syndicate managers, David Mitchell.
Tuesday’s Syndicate Runner
Jacobs Fire – She’s a classy pup and we think a lot of her at this stage of he career. She’s bred to be exciting out of the Oaks winner Silverview Perky. We always thought she’d stay a trip and we were keen to give her this proper test at an early point in he career. Last week she left them for dead but looked green out in-front, she was eventually beaten into second. With that under her belt we know she can go one better and if she can be a bit more ‘street-wise’ she could have a cracking chance in this race.
Tuesday’s Opponents
Llewin Forbryn – Looks set to throw down a challenge after victory last week. That came in an S5 and she’ll need to take another step forward in this race. She’s a relative newcomer to the 540 trip so there could be plenty of improvement to come. She has loads of early pace and we’d imagine connections will feel this dog has a great chance.
Lefanata Acer – Reached a decent level in Ireland and was probably expected to achieve more at Crayford. Even though he hasn’t reached those heights yet he does have a victory on his card around here. He’s been given a chance with a drop in grade and if he could clear T1 he would have a live chance in this race.
Firminos Class – Not sure we agree with the name but this dog does have a touch class. Like our own Jacobs Fire this dog is just a puppy and is still a working progress. Trialed well over this trip but probably lacks the experience to make a dent in some of the big boys in this field. He’s a dog to watch closely but this might be just a touch soon.
Rouge Raptor – Always seems to run her race here and that has resulted in a place effort in her last 7 outings. Seen more recently over the 380 trip but she certainly gets the 6 bends at Crayford. She has decent consistent early and if she could get clear off the front she’d be tough to peg back. Chance.
Lisnakill Andy – Ran down Jacobs Fire last week but looked beaten for a long way. We’re confident that Fire can turn the tables on this dog. We can’t take away the victory though and he does have a chance. Don’t be expecting early fireworks but he will be staying late to the line.
On paper this doesn’t look the easiest of races for Jacobs Fire but she does have a chance. If she was to take this it would be a decent feather in her cap. With her being so young we just want to see her take another step forward and return home safely.
