Moyglare Stud Stakes Tips & Betting Preview

Seven 2yo fillies have been declared for this Group 1 contest over 7f. Read our horse-by-horse race preview for our experts’ betting tips.

IN SUMMARY: As usual, Aidan O’Brien holds a strong hand in this Group 1 event. Ryan Moore is booked for the unbeaten filly Promise To Be True, but the Group 3 race she won at Leopardstown didn’t look particularly strong and she hasn’t travelled particularly well on either of her starts. Preference is for RHODODENDRUM, who had a few of today’s rivals behind when winning a C&D Group 2 contest last month. She only prevailed by a head on that occasion but oozed class throughout and always looked the likely winner. Jim Bolger introduces, Dawn Of A New Era, a sister to his champion 2yo Dawn Approach and, although this is a very tough assignment for a debutante, the bookmakers offering her at 66/1 are evidently feeling brave.

1 Brave Anna – Displayed improvement to win a 6f course maiden in May and followed up with narrow-margin success in the Group 3 Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot (6f, good to soft) a few weeks later; player on that evidence but disappointed when upped to 7f here last month.

2 Dawn Of A New Era – Sister to her stable’s champion 2yo/2,000 Guineas winner Dawn Approach and cost E480,000 as a yearling; in at the deep end for today’s debut and entitled to benefit from the experience but could be anything.

3 Hydrangea – Came good in C&D conditions race last month, her third start, and bettered that form when close second to Rhododendrum in Group 2 event on softish ground back here three weeks ago (made the running); won’t be far away if matching that form today.

4 Intricately – Caused 33/1 surprise on debut in June and has finished third in Group contests on both subsequent outings, the more recent behind Rhododendrum over C&D (yielding to soft) three weeks ago; can go well again here but others probably have more potential.

5 Promise To Be True – Sister to Maybe, who won this race for the same connections in 2011, and is unbeaten after two starts, the more recent when comfortably bagging a Group 3 at Leopardstown (7f, good to firm); jockey bookings suggests she’s the pick of the Aidan O’Brien-trained quartet.

6 Rehana – Far too good for Rhododendrum when easily winning a C&D maiden in June but had the advantage of a previous run under her belt that day and had to settle for fourth behind her (and another couple of today’s rivals) in a C&D Group 2 contest three weeks ago; clearly needs to better that performance.

7 Rhododendrum – Out of a triple Group 1 winner and had four of today’s rivals behind when gaining narrow-margin win in Group 2 contest over C&D (yielding to soft) last month, her third start; could easily have more to offer and needs to be taken very seriously.

myracing Forecast Prices: 5/4 Promise To Be True, 6/4 Rhododendrum, 8/1 Hydrangea, 14/1 Rehana, 16/1 Intricately, 25/1 Brave Anna, 50/1 Dawn Of A New Era
