Meydan Sprint Tips & Betting Preview

IN SUMMARY: This looks a two horse race with ERTIJAAL getting the nod over Blue Point due to the trip. The latter has won first time up on both seasons he has been racing so far, but Charlie Appleby’s horse has never tried five furlongs. Ertijaal has a sparkling record over this course and distance with all his best form coming here. Hit The Bid can get third.

1 FITYAAN – Veteran has been absent for more than a year, producing solid efforts at both five furlongs and this trip when last seen. This is a tough contest despite the small field so he makes limited appeal on his return to action.

2 BLUE POINT – Multiple Group winner, placed twice at the highest level. He has won fresh on both his seasonal returns thus far, including beating Harry Angel on his 2017 debut. Has a very smart Meydan specialist in opposition especially at this trip but there is little between them on the book.

3 OUT DO – Popped up at the perfect time to land the Wokingham at Royal Ascot, his only win in his last twenty-two outings. These conditions are perfect for him but he has a lot to find with the principals in a level weights contest.

4 ERTIJAAL – A star since returning to sprinting, very hard to beat over the five furlong trip here. His six runs over this trip at Meydan are the strongest in his career, only defeated once. Blue Point is one of the strongest rivals he will have faced so will need to be right at his best.

5 SIR MAXIMILIAN – A regular in these sort of races down the years, he is a dual course and distance winner. Not shown anything like his best form in Meydan so far this year so easy enough to pass him over given the level of the pair at the top of the market.

6 HIT THE BID – Stringing together a consistent run of smart form recently. He was only beaten half a length by Ertijaal when they met last month, comfortably justifying favouritism last time. Considerably worse off with Ertijaal in a level weights contest however, he’ll need a career best to win.
