IN SUMMARY: A wide open affair here in the feature here at Navan today with Gordon Elliott responsible for no fewer than 5 of the 8 runners. De Plotting Shed looks the best of the bunch having recently completed a hat-trick and with his confidence sky high may be well be up to beating Shaneshill who came a neck second on his trip to the US for the Percy Warner back in May having previously finished second behind Thistlecrack in the Stayer’s Hurdle at Aintree and second in the RSA Chase behind Blaklion. The King’s Theatre gelding has won first time out for the last 3 years in a row but Gordon Elliott’s horse has been visually impressive in his 3 wins so far albeit in minor events but he looks the type to keep on improving and he could be a horse to follow this season.
Snow Falcon – Kept on well to score by 2 ¾ lengths here in February from a couple of Gigginstown runners and after a summer break followed up by winning comfortably at Roscommon beating Simenon from Willie Mullins yard and then at Leopardstown when accounting for Hidden Cyclone. That form is strong and after a couple of spins on the flat the last twice will be fresh for this. Has to carry top weight however and may just find one or two of these two good.
De Plotting Shed – Has proved a revelation so far this season having won races at Navan, Thurles and then Nass over a variety of trips including today’s for a combined total of 21 lengths. More improvement to take this but his trainer is in irrepressible form and looks the stable pick on jockey bookings with his trainer fielding no less than 5 of the 8 runners in this field. He was mentioned as a horse with enormous potential in a recent stable tour and looks set for another big run.
Dedigout – Classy hurdler when in the hands of Tony Martin with two wins last year at Navan and Fairyhouse. Finished 3rd of 8 in a Grade 2 hurdle again at Fairyhouse in March and has been off since. Now joined Gordon Elliott he can go well fresh and has to enter calculations here.
Noble Endeavour – Useful hurdler who was in contention for the National Hunt Chase but for falling 2 out at Cheltenham back in March. Disappointed next time in the Champion Novice Chase at Punchestown in April and has something to find on form with these.
Shaneshill – Brilliant hurdler for Willie Mullins last season with a second in the RSA Chase behind Blaklion before filling the same berth in the Stayer’s Hurdle at Aintree in April. Missed out narrowly in the Percy Warner in May and makes his seasonal debut here on the back of 3 first time-out wins in a row for the past 3 years. Big chance on form.
Tagliatelle – Has some smart hurdling form in the last two years but sent chasing recently and hasn’t really taken to it with defeats coming at Downpatrick, Killarney and Galway. Sent back over hurdles last month at Cheltenham and finished a disappointing 9th of 14. Looks up against it today.
Ucello Conti – Rated 139 and is a better chaser than hurdler having finished an admirable 6th in the Grand National back in April. Tough assignment against some classy hurdlers today.
Jer’s Girl – Promising juvenile hurdler last year when winning two Grade 1 events at Fairyhouse and Punchestown beating O O Seven in the latter by 10 lengths who won at Cheltenham comfortably yesterday. With that form franked she cannot be ruled out albeit in a tougher race than any she has faced and this is her first start of the season. Solid place chance.
